GoFundMe: Please Help Hicklebee's
Hicklebee’s: Where Books Come Alive.
Let’s keep it alive.
Founded in 1979, Hicklebee's has withstood recessions, an earthquake retrofit, the heyday of Big Box chain stores, and the aggressive business practices of a certain online retailer Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Now, in 2020, co-owners and sisters Valerie Lewis and Monica Holmes and their 24-member Hicklebee's staff face the challenge of a pandemic.
In March, as schools were closed and businesses shuttered, we stayed open online and by phone, working to keep books and toys available for shipping and curbside pickup. Hicklebee’s partnered with the Santa Clara County Office of Education to create a book drive that safely delivered bags of new books to nearly 400 families in need.
But the revenue loss from no walk-in traffic and from cancelled school and community events has been devastating. School book fairs, Authors in Schools programs, and classroom/library orders make up a large part of our business. No amount of hustle can make up that loss.
The money raised from this GoFundMe campaign will cover those losses and support operating costs through the summer. During that time Hicklebee's will continue to come up with new ways of getting the best new books and beloved older titles to you, and we will focus on being ready for the time when schools resume. We're determined that our doors will be open and that, with your generous help, Hicklebee’s can welcome our community back home.
